Bilingual Poetry Reading at the Biennial
One
of the events scheduled at the AATSP 10th Northeast Biennial meeting was a Bilingual Poetry Reading, on Saturday evening (September 11th) at the Yale Bookstore. Participants were María Crocetti, currently the Director of the Spanish Language Program at Yale and the author of
Las últimas baldosas del patio; Kevin Carey, Chairman of the World Language Department at Saint Joseph High School and former editor of
Connecticut River Review; Lilián Uribe, a Professor at Central Connecticut State University and author of two books on Argentinean poet Juan Gelman; Diana Valencia, Associate Professor at Saint Joseph College (West Hartford, Connecticut) and translator of Dori Katz's book of poetry,
Hiding in Other People's Houses; and Noël Valis, Professor at Yale and author of
Mi casa me recuerda/My House Remembers Me and The Culture of Cursilería. Bad Taste, Kitsch and Class in Modern Spain. The event was well attended, and the public enthusiastic. Here is a sampling of some of the poems read at the bookstore.
